dancer artist portrait barbican

Words and images by Jennifer McCord

Reneé Stewart and I got together after being introduced online by our mutual friends Jill & Jacob, both dancers and founders of Jacob Jonas The Company whom I'd previously shot with when they were over from LA in the summer.

My work is normally photographing musicians and I love that it's one artistic medium photographing another - the same applies to dance. Dancers bring a level of emotion alongside their elegance and grace which I find very similar to musicians.

Trying to create emotional work is what I'm really passionate about and I think Renee was very in tune with that too which made it all the more awesome. The majority of this set was shot on a Nikon D750 with the Sigma ART 50mm 1.4, I also used the Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 for a few shots as well, at the Barbican using only natural/available light.
